City of Covington Receives Governor's Award in the ArtsCity of Covington Receives the Governor’s Award in the Arts On October 1, 2008, Governor Steven L. Beshear presented the 2007-2008 Governor's Awards in the Arts in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort. This year’s Government Award recipient was the City of Covington. According to the Kentucky Arts Council, “Covington made a bold move in using the arts as an economic development tool to revitalize its downtown. The impetus began with Renaissance Covington, a non-profit development entity begun by the city. Through a long and thorough planning process, Covington cultivated the idea of an arts district using the National Main Street Program guiding principles: design, organization, promotion and economic restructuring.” |
