Kentucky Caregiver Support Program - Grandparent Support

Grandparents in Kentucky who are providing primary care for a grandchild under the age of 18 may be eligible for assistance through the Kentucky Caregiver Support Program.

Grandparents of an age who meet financial guidelines and are not receiving Kinship Care can receive financial assistance or supportive services that may include:

• information about services that are available
• assistance in gaining access to services
• individual counseling
• support groups and caregiver training

Financial assistance could be used to buy clothing, respite assistance, educational supplies or assistance, required legal services, medical and dental services and other expenses as authorized by the Cabinet of Health and Family Services.

To qualify, grandparents must be related by blood, through marriage or adoption and must be the primary caregiver of the child. The child's parent may not live in the home.

The Kentucky Caregiver Support Program is a state-funded program and is one of the services offered through Kentucky's Division of Aging Services. It is administered by the regional Area Agencies on Aging. For more information, please contact the Area Agency on Aging in your area.
