Local organizations submitted applications on behalf of individuals in need, and 50 children were to be randomly selected to receive beds.
Jessica Arlinghaus, a staff member from our Human Services Division, has been involved with the Safety Net Alliance and specifically with the Sweet Dreams Project. When Jessica started working on the project, she decided that she wanted to find a way for our organization and specifically our department to raise money to donate towards this project.
In a short matter of time, the department was able to raise funds through a bake sale, a coin drop and other activities and donations, generating $300 toward the project. The cost of one bed kit for a child is $150, so we were able to donate enough to purchase two bed kits for the project.
As the saying goes, “A good deed never goes undone.” Shortly after we collected the funds, two of our staff were notified that their clients (a total of 8 children) were going to directly benefit from this program and will be receiving beds during the Outreach Event on March 19.
Thank you to Jessica Arlinghaus for leading the charge in this community effort to provide beds to children in desperate need.
