MISSION STATEMENT
The Workforce Development Division acts as a catalyst for workforce development initiatives in the area that contribute to Northern Kentucky's forward movement into the 21st century. Workforce development is defined as all activities, which assist individuals to attain skills necessary for employment and which assist employers in meeting current and anticipated manpower and training needs.
Workforce Investment Board (WIB) Meetings

The Youth Committee considers policy and funding issues for WIA Title IB Youth programs. Workforce Investment Act (WIA)
Planning and administration for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs/activities in the eight county region in northern Kentucky.
All service delivery is coordinated to occur out of One Stop Centers. These are located at:
- 8020 Veterans Memorial Drive, Florence
- 320 Garrard Street, Covington
- 402 4th Street, Carrollton
- N. Ky./Greater Cincinnati International Airport
- 500 Chapel Street, Falmouth
WIA calls for the establishment of a local Workforce Investment Board (WIB). The WIB membership must be at least 50% from the private sector, In addition, the "local elected official", a role currently served by the NKADD Board of Directors, works in partnership with the WIB to meet the employment needs of the community. The WIB is responsible for:
- Management of the local One Stop Career System efforts, including selection of operator(s) and providers.
- Maintenance of a performance driven system for documenting accomplishment of standards,
- Selection of youth service providers, Identification of eligible providers of training services,
- Provide oversight of budget status, audits, contract status
Eligible adults and dislocated workers can access services at a One Stop center that lead to employment. There are three levels of services:

local area performance and availability of support services

Career S.T.E.P.S.
Segue to Employment Programs/School
Career Steps, made available through Workforce Investment Act funds, is a program designed for the client between the ages of 16 through 21. It is specifically designed to cater to the young employee that is still searching for the perfect career match. Many of our clients have a minimal amount of job experience and are in need of basic skills that will entice employers to give them a chance to prove themselves. Career Steps is a program that can help the One Stop client to reach a variety of career goals.
The Career Steps Career Counselor will guide the young job applicant through the process of searching and applying for employment. The first steps are exploring the many career options that are available in our local job market. We even offer services that will allow the client to build a professional resume and prepare for an interview.
All eligible clients will be encouraged to take advantage of the many workshops offered within the One Stop. These workshops are designed to enhance employment skills and increase the available employment options.
For Workforce Investment Act eligible clients, vocational training may be available that will enhance the skills that employers are seeking. Short-term certificate training can be accomplished in as few as 6 weeks and will increase the number of jobs available to the client.

Health Connections
The Health Connections Program, made available with Workforce Investment Act funds, provides services for eligible participants to explore the various health care fields with employment opportunities in the
There are various services available within the One Stop that will help One Stop clientele to gain the skills necessary to become a successful health care professional. Job Preparation workshops and career counseling are the first steps on this career pathway. These services are available to all One Stop clients. They allow the client to learn the best techniques for networking and searching for the perfect employment opportunity. Career testing allows the career counselor and the client to explore the type of profession best suited to the client and the options that are available.
Meet with our Health Connections Career Counselors today to discuss additional services available in the One Stop. For eligible clients, the Job Shadowing service is a unique opportunity to explore various career options with the medical field. Following a local medical professional at work for a day allows clients to make sound decisions concerning the career path that best suits the individual. Clients can shadow one job or multiple jobs.
Training is available for many of our clients, depending on the availability of funds and the assessed need of the individual. Our training providers offer several certificates and degrees that prepare our clients for employment in the medical field. Our career counselors can help clients to explore the many options available.
In addition to the services mentioned, we offer job preparation instruction. Many of our clients choose to immediately seek employment or to seek part time employment while training; our career counselors guide clients in choosing the employment path that will match their skills and economic needs. Employment Connections
A Project of Kentucky Works
Employment Connections was created to provide a seamless transition of deliverable services that build on opportunities designed to assist K-TAP recipients who are referred by DCBS to attain their highest potential, maintain meaningful employment and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Employment Connections provides employment opportunities to K-TAP recipients by assisting participants to develop skills to obtain, retain and/or upgrade employment skills and secure employment. The program staff encourages employers to hire participants or provide them with job work experience.
Employment Connections serves Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen and Pendleton.
Clients may be placed in four possible components
- Community Service in non-profit agencies
- Work Experience in non-profit agencies
- Short Term Training
- Wage Subsidy
