The Youth Internship Program is an innovative approach to help young job seekers become work ready. The program is designed to serve clients ages 18 through 21. It caters to the young employee that is still searching for the perfect career match with little or no education or experience in the field. Youth clients typically have minimal job experience and need basic employment skills to become employable in any field. We work with the client to set a career goal and to set small obtainable goals that will lead to their success. Youth will then be placed in a worksite matching their career goal for approximately 10-12 weeks. Most positions will be paid $9.00 per hour.

This program has been operating since October 2010. Once these clients have completed their 10-12 weeks of work, we will assist them in receiving training. We have focused on building partnerships that offer short term training options for these clients. Youth have the option to receive training before or after their work experience.  Clients that have obtained a certificate prior to employment have an advantage in obtaining long term employment. In addition, employers receive a more qualified intern, and the process alleviates some risk in hiring a permanent position. Clients that enter work experience prior to training use that experience to help decide on a career pathway. That experience is then used as a building block towards their professional development.
