Program Description

The NKADD is an important part of Kentucky’s transportation planning process. Statewide, the major groups that play a role in this process are the Area Development Districts (ADDs), Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet‘s (KYTC) Division of Planning and Highway District Offices.  Transportation supports the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in the planning process, Coordinates the NKADD work elements, Coordinates the NKADD Transportation Committee, reviews and prioritizes the KYTC unscheduled projects list and prepare quarterly progress reports to administer the NKADD transportation program and submit to KYTC.

Eligibility

ADDs conduct transportation planning activities in the counties outside of the nine urbanized areas of the state. In the Northern Kentucky ADD, the non-urbanized area includes Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Owen, and Pendleton counties. Transportation planning for the urbanized counties of Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties is conducted by the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI).

Who does the Program Benefit / What are the Benefits?

The NKADD transportation planning benefits all citizens within the NKADD area with an emphasis on the Rural Counties of Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Owen and Pendleton.

Services Offered within the Program

NKADD’s transportation planning responsibilities include Transportation Grant writing, collection and analysis of data, coordination of public input, identification of needs in the region and subsequent evaluation and prioritization of projects in the Unscheduled Highway Needs List (UNL) for possible inclusion in the State’s Six-Year Highway Plan.
