Program Description

The State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provides education and assistance for people aged 60 and older and disabled individuals to aid them in making informed decisions on programs impacting their quality of life. These programs include Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, private insurances, and other benefits specific to older and disabled adults.

Eligibility

Individuals residing in Boone, Campbell, Carroll, Gallatin, Grant, Kenton, Owen, and Pendleton Counties who have Medicare and/or are age 60 and older.

Who does the Program Benefit / What are the Benefits?

SHIP counselors can assist individuals with questions or concerns about Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Medicaid issues, Social Security/SSI, Housing Problems, Energy Assistance, Food Stamps, Veterans Administration Benefits, referrals to Prescription Drug Assistance Programs, and understanding billing from hospitals, doctors, and insurance companies.

Services Offered within the Program

Free and confidential assistance with applying for benefits, plan comparisons for Part D, understanding Long Term Care and Medigap insurance, assistance with organizing and understanding paperwork from hospitals, doctors, Medicare and insurance companies.
